Kalan Porter

Kalan News

Kalan took a break from the music industry for awhile so that he could go back to Medicine Hat to be with his family, but he is back working hard again on his second CD scheduled to be released in Summer 2007!!

I was at Kalan's show at the Medicine Hat Stampede on July 27th. It was an awesome concert, as usual. Kalan's voice is still amazingly strong and there was no hint of shyness in him! He really got the crowd going and kept it exciting throughout the night. At one point he was talking about how most of the audience members are girls and that the only reason that the guys are there is probably because they were dragged there; but that they are the smartest guys. I mean common, you know your boyfriend's awesome when he tags along with you to a Kalan concert! Kalan sang a variety of songs ranging from his Canadian Idol songs to cover-songs, to his debut CD songs, to new songs from his upcoming album. He sang Awake In A Dream, Born To Be Wild, Nature Boy, Surrender, Let's Dance, The Devil Went Down To Georgia, In Your Eyes, Single, In Spite Of It All, Shades of Grey (new song!) and a few more. Kalan's violin skills still shine, especially when he plays The Devil Went Down To Georgia. Overall, the concert was excellent.

My videos from the concert are ready for viewing on the Kalan Downloads page!

Now that the third season of Canadian Idol is going, some people are thinking, as soon as that new winner comes out, Kalan is going to be history. But that guy is still going strong and it doesn't look like he's leaving the public anytime soon. Kalan's been taking home quite the number of awards. He took home 3 titles from ChartAttack's 10th annual Reader's Poll, including "best single", "sexiest male", and "best hair". Keep up the good work fans...and of course Kalan!

I went to Kalan's concert on March 18th in Medicine Hat. It was great! He really got the crowd going during songs, especially during David Bowie's "Let's Dance". The concert was enjoyable for people of all ages. I think Kalan is slowly pulling away from his label as "that Canadian Idol guy" and into "the new, hot, young artist, Kalan Porter". His video for "Single" and NEW video for "In Spite of It All" are giving him his own unique style.
As far as the "Kalander" goes, Kalan has a few appearences scheduled in different festivals throughout the summer in different places in Ontario. Right now though, I think Kalan is enjoying some time hanging out with his friends in Medicine Hat!

On January 13th on many different channels, Kalan and many other Canadian artists got together to do a Tsunami relief concert thing. Put together by Tom Cochrane in 1 week, the artists got together and sang for 3 hours while people donated money. They raised over 4 and a half million dollars!
WAY TO GO CANADA!

Many of Kalan's concerts are sold out already! He will be touring all through February and March. Visit the link below to get full concert details!

KALAN WON CANADIAN IDOL!!!!

I was at the arena and man was it crazy! Me, my mom, sister and brother all drove an hour to get to Medicine Hat. We got there at about 4:00, which is when the doors opened. We were supposed to pick up my cousin in the Hat so we could all drive to the arena, but she was already there. We drove down to the arena and right away my sister jumps out of the truck and runs away. Me and my brother phoned my cousin and find out where she is in the line. We found her and her friends, and joined her in the line-up. I asked where my sister, Brittany was. Well nobody knew where she was but the line was starting to move and the doors had opened so we couldn't really wait for her. About 30 seconds before we handed in our tickets my cousins friends cell phone ring. It turns out when we got the cell phone number to call my cousin the first time, Brittany had the number written on her hand so she asked the first lady she saw if she had a cell phone. So we told her to run into the arena and just as we were handing in out tickets she found us and we all got floor seats! After that it was a whole bunch of screaming and jumping. My throat was soo sore afterwards, haha! When Ben was ready to annouce the winner we all stood on our chairs holding hands. My knees and hands were both shaking. When he FINALLY said the name: Kalan Porter, we leaped off our chairs and it was just a jumble of hugs, screams and laughs, lol. The arena was crazy! When we were driving through Medicine Hat just before we left, everyone was honking, holding up posters, yelling out windows....not to say that I wasn't! But, it was really great. As we were pulling out of the arena Kalan's first single was already on the radio. It was definitely an experience!

My mom just told me this really funny story. Read real carefully though, it's kinda confusing. This guy that my mom works with...well his son is really good friends with Kalan and went to the party with Kalan after the Hometown Rally in Medicine Hat. Anyways, this guy that is friends with Kalan, he knows another guy who was getting married in B.C this summer. Their wedding singer couldn't come because, are you ready for it.....it was Shane Weibe and he was at Canadian Idol. Hahaha, I got a kick outta this one, lol!

Ok, if you read everything that I've wrote below you would probably think I'm pretty lucky. I know that I am! I've been to the Sandfly Festival and got his autograph and my picture taken with him and everything. I couldn't be happier. But, unbeliveably, it got even better! This lady from here phones and goes I have something for you Tianna. So this afternoon(August 28th) she came over and I hear my mom call my name. I ran to the door and my mom hands me this picture of Kalan. I look at it and I was like awesome! And then I look and it has writing on it and I just thought, ok, what is this? Then I read it!! It said "Tianna (actually he spelled my name wrong, hehe, he wrote Tiana) Thanks for the support, can't wait to read the article, all the best, Kalan Porter." Well, I write in the Medicine Hat News for every Thursday paper about Canadian Idol. Your probably wondering how he knew this? Kalan  was flying from Calgary to Medicine Hat for the hometown rally and she was on his plane! She said he was standing right beside her and she goes "Kalan!". He turned around and said Hi and ended up just a few rows back from her. His parents were beside her and she said she talked to them for a while. Kalan's dad said that he wasn't sure about the rally because he hadn't told many people about it (meanwhile we're already lined up!!). She said she told Kalan all about me and asked if he could give her his autograph!! So he told her that he would give it to her once they were off the plane. She said they all got off but then CTV made everyone go back on so that Kalan could come off by himself. Then she said that when CTV and everyone was taping him he just walked over and handed her the autograph! Awwww!!! Unfortunately, my sister Brittany never got one, and I kinda feel bad for her. But, I think it's so cool now that Kalan is going to read my article...I'm a little bit nervous! Mostly excited though!

Kalan's Hometown Rally was AWESOME! You can't even begin to describe it. Me, my sister, and cousin sat in line all night in the rain at the Veiner Center to get tickets. (We were 2nd!) 10 hours to be exact. But it all paid off! We were second in line and Kalan's sisters and cousins and stuff came and taped us for Canadian Idol. Do you know what I noticed? Kalan has a really good looking family! I mean, you have to agree. His sisters and cousins are all really pretty and his guy cousins are pretty good looking to, hehe!! I just had to add that, lol, but it's true! My96 came too and was doing stuff there..and then finally the line started and we got tickets in like a minute! We went home that afternoon and slept until like 2 and then went to SuperStore to pick up white T-shirts, markers and glitter glue. That afternoon we made the coolest T-shirts ever!!! Mine said "I'm your Lady!". Then we all went over to my aunties house and she painted our nails so that they said Kalan 4 Idol. She has a buisness called SoulMaids so she was gunna do a whole bunch of cool stuff for us. But we wanted to get down to the Fieldhouse to get in line. We waited all afternoon but it was good because we got right against the front fence thing. We also met some other awesome fans, and we played cards and stuff with them. It was fun. We also went beside the road with our posters and cheering and everything and getting everyone to honk. It was hilarious! We had soo much fun! I even got interviewed by CTV and we all got taped by Canadian Idol! When we were screaming and looking at the camera, Kalan even peeked out the window but nobody saw him! Finally when it was 5:30 we all ran right up to the stage. We had to wait there for an hour and a half but they had giant screens on either side of the stage and we watched all of Kalan's performances...twice! Then at 7:00, Kalan came out. Well from that time on I never stopped screaming!!! I also had a big poster that just said "We (big red heart) Kalan"...just in case you saw us, haha. There were tons of media everywhere! My other little cousin Kassidy is going to be in the Calgary Herald with her face painted as half of a maple leaf. She was so cute. What all happened at the concert was that Kalan sang, obviusly, My96 presented Kalan with the poster that all the fans signed at the Sandfly Festival, 3 girls got chosen to go up and sing for Kalan to "audition", my sister got asked 3 Idol trivia questions and won a t-shirt...um, oh so much stuff happened! Like 5 or 6 times Kalan had to come down from the stage and hand out t-shirts or something and he'd walk by and like touch our hands. I touched him every single time, and wow. His hands are soo incredibly soft, it's crazy! The whole concert was an experience for all of us. I'm so glad I went. I got to meet new friends, be on national TV, AND touch Kalan, lol!! He's such a great guy and I think everyone is glad that he is from Medicine Hat!

Kalan also attended the Sandfly Festival on July 1st in Medicine Hat, Alberta with his family band SWASS. It was the highlight of many people's summer (including mine!) An average crowd for the festival is about 3,500. This year that number skyrocketed to over 10,000! Everyone was waiting with their posters for SWASS!  Kalan came out with his sunglasses on and the crowd screamed with much of the screaming lasting the entire time they sang. Finally, some of the girls started yelling "Take off the sunglasses!" Kalan finally took them off and the crowd went wild! Kalan and SWASS sang many songs such as "I Can Only Imagine"(his favorite song to sing), "Amazed"(which Kalan decicated to the girls!), "Born to Be Wild"(which he sang in the Top 10), "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and "Cotton Eye Joe" (he played violin in both) and the girls sang "I Love Rock and Roll". Those were just a few of the songs. Afterwards, Kalan singed autographs for 2 and a half hours for tons of fans from all over the country. It was an awesome day for everyone!!
